Allan Houser (1914-1994) bronze on wood base, "After the Dance". Signed and numbered (2/20) at base of blanket verso. Dimensions: 16"h x 11.5"w x 10.5"d. Allan Capron Haozous who became known to the world as Allan Houser was born on June 30, 1914 in the rural farming community of Apache, Oklahoma. Driven by an inner muse, he left home at the age of twenty to attend the Painting School at the Santa Fe Indian School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Although immersed in Apache tradition, he was fascinated by art from all over the world. He mastered a number of styles ranging from straightforward representation to pure abstraction, and throughout his career he was recognized as the foremost Native American artist.
