Colt Burgess Lever-Action Rifle No. 4024

Extremely rare Colt Burgess Rifle, manufactured for only two years between 1883 and 1855, in .44 caliber, with a shortened octagonal barrel. The rifle was developed to compete with Winchester's lever action rifles, and was in several ways a superior gun, but could not compete with the Winchester brand, so was discontinued after only about 6,500 were produced. Technical description: .44 caliber, lever action rifle with octagonal barrel, serial number 4024, made between 1883 and 1885. Barrel length: 15 ¼ inches. Overall length: 33 ½ inches. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $125 plus a 1.5% replacement cost insurance fee. Discounts given on combined lot shipping.

Condition:

Good. The barrel has been well shortened. The metal has been polished, reblued, and is lightly rusted over the reblued. The action is not functioning, and several screws are missing. The stock has minor dents and scratches, and one longer scratch, but is generally very good. The markings on the barrel are deep and clear. The rampant horse emblem is visible on the right side of the action.
