Identified 1851 Colt Navy Revolver and Holster

Late 4rd Model Colt 1851 Navy revolver serial number 194140, manufactured in 1866. Matching serial numbers on all major components including the wedge. Standard configuration with dovetailed "V" notch rear barrel sight. Blue with case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer. Brass triggerguard and backstrap. One -piece walnut grips. Butt is inscribed "C.P. SWIFT / FT. SMITH". Research shows that Cromwell P. Swift was born on 26 December 1834 at Fort Towson, Choctaw Nation Oklahoma. Died January 21, 1878. Swift was born into a military family, served in the American Civil War and is buried is at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Accompanying the revolver is a correct period, civilian, "California Slim Jim Style" holster. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S $35 plus a 1.5% replacement cost insurance fee.

Condition:

Good overall showing heavy use. Majority of the revolver shows a heavy brown patina with scattered freckling. A few period replaced screws. Brass shows a moderate, unpolished mustard color patina. Top of grips show areas of missing wood, on both sides located at the frame/backstrap juncture. Mainspring is defective prohibiting hammer from remaining at full cocked position, and rotation of the cylinder. Overall, a most colorful Colt with history that deserves further research.
