Imperial German Cavalry Officer's Presentation Sword

1905 Presentation Imperial German Cavalry Officer's Sword, Damascus blade with blue and gold decoration and presentation inscription from Emil Vorster to his son Carl, 21 Marz 1905. The blade has the Weyersberg Kirschbaum stamp on the ricasso. The hilt is very fine, it has crossed sabers and lances on one langet, and intertwined CV initials on the other langet. The lion's head has tiny rubies for the eyes. There are patterns of oak leaves on the grip ferrule and on the outside of the knuckle bow. The grip is black, probably leather covered, with three bands of wire wrap. The blade is pipe backed, with a long double edged point measuring 14 inches. The damascus pattern appears to be maiden's hair. The back of the blade is engraved with vines and leaves. The blue and gold decoration includes the presentation in three blue panels, "Emil Vorster, s/l Sohn Carl, 21 Marz 1905." There are vines and leaves in gold surrounding the presentation. The other side has similar decoration, with a face in a classical helmet, a panoply of arms The scabbard is plain, black painted steel with a single ring. Dimensions: 38.5" total length x 32" blade. Condition:

Excellent overall. The gilt on the hilt is slightly faded. There are some minor stains on the blade, especially toward the end. The blade has been service sharpened. There are two small nicks along the edge. The scabbard has a minor dent, and some of the black paint is worn away.
