Elgin 3-Colored 18k Gold & Diamond Hunter Cased Locomotive Pocket Watch

A truly spectacular 18 karat three colored gold set with a diamond, hunter cased Railroad Grade Elgin watch, with the case stamped M.W. Shaw, Galveston, Texas, and "Guaranteed 18 Carat Fine." The watch is serial number 747185, manufactured in 1880, with a gold hallmark on the inside of the case. It was the third of 30 of this watch made by Elgin. The movement is 15 jewels, screw-set, with a Breguet hairspring. It has a seconds sub-dial, and Latin numeral face with Elgin National Watch Co. The case is spectacular, with a high-relief locomotive on one side, depicted in three colors of gold, with a small cut diamond set as the locomotive's headlamp. The case is covered with exceptionally finely detailed engraving, although the center of the other side of the case has a plain area, obviously meant for initials. The case has its own serial number, which is 7129. Total Weight: 141 grams. Size: 16s. Face: 1.75 inches. Case: 2.6 inches tall, not including stem, 1.9 inches wide, and .6 inches thick. Condition:

Superbly excellent. The movement is in excellent working order and keeps good time. The case is a work of art, and only shows slight signs of ever having been carried.
