Pennsylvania/ Kentucky Flintlock Long Rifle with London Warranted Lock

A fine and early flintlock Pennsylvania Long Rifle, with brass mounts and patchbox, and octagonal barrel in .52 caliber. The lock has “London Warranted” on it, although it is clearly an American made rifle, circa 1780. The mounts are plain but handsome. The butt has a pronounced droop to it, similar to a “fishbelly” stock. The hand made patchbox contains an original worm. The patchbox has a simple design like an eagle’s head coming out of the right hand side. The stock is handsomely carved with simple line decoration, and the remains of tiger striping are visible. The long rifle is better balanced than most of its type. From the Shelton Collection. Dimensions: 54.75 inches long overall, with the barrel being 39.5 inches long. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $70.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance.

Condition:

The stock is sound and in good condition, with minor scratches and dents. The metal is dark, with a heavy patina, probably from being displayed over a fireplace. The lock is quite dark, but “London Warranted is discernible. There is an unusual lobed roller on the frizzen spring. The action is tight and crisp.
