Bigelow, Marysville California Percussion Target Rifle

A very fine and handsome heavy barreled target rifle by the California maker Bigelow, in Marysville. It has a heavy octagonal barrel with false muzzle, double set triggers, and an additional tang sight. The finely engraved lock has no name on it, but the top of the barrel is marked, “B. Bigelow, Marysville, Cal.” The furniture is engraved steel. There is a heavy rib beneath the barrel. The wooden ramrod appears original. The stock is very fine, with deep checkering at the wrist. The rifle is .44 caliber. The action is tight and crisp, but the double set trigger hangs on first pull. The maker and gun are mentioned in Mr. Shelton’s California Gunsmiths, and this is from the author’s collection. Dimensions: The rifle is 50 inches long overall. The barrel is 34 inches in length. Processing and shipping within the continental U.S. $55.00 plus 1.5% replacement cost insurance. .

Condition:

Overall condition is very good plus to excellent. The steel has a dark patina, with a little old rust on the lockplate, but there is no pitting at all, and the gun is generally very clean. The stock is excellent.
